Marta Kocon, based in Copenhagen Denmark is a trained violist and conductor of the Carl Nielsen Academy in Odense Denmark and the Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice, Poland.

Viola studies with Finn Winsloev, former soloist in Odense Symphony Orchestra, with a diploma concert at the Music Academy in Odense in 2005. Masterclasses with: Tim Frederiksen, summercourse with Nicolai Znaider etc.

Studies in conducting with Prof. Iwona Melson, led to a Master degree in conducting. After graduation she studied forward with docent Alice Granum and Joergen Fuglebaek.


Marta Kocon has played concerts as a soloist, chamber musician, with pianists (f.ex. Mark Glynn, Karolina Bogus) and organ players (f.ex. Lars Frederiksen, Mona Tørsager) and in other formations in Denmark, Poland, Italy, Germany, Israel and Mozambique.


Marta is a member of The Emerald String Trio (Arden Lambert violin, Marta Kocon viola, Zuzsa Szolnoki cello), which programs are among others a “Theme Concerts”. The most recent project is titled “The time travel with the barock string music” (Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi).


She plays in a percussion / viola duo The Chain, which performs the new music comissioned for the duo and the music specially arranged for their unique instrumentarium (viola, marimba, vibraphon, darabuka, rame drum, etc).

Currently the duo has a serie of concerts with their latest program, which is Polish music. That is a compilation of compositions of Chopin´s mazurkas and preludes, Gorecki, Szymanowski and Lutoslawski, who´se cyclus of works “The Chain” has given the name for the Duo.


Marta Kocon cooperates musically with Regina Madsen in the duo Regina & Marta (violin / viola & voice / piano). The Duo´s repertoire is a compillation of music from the baroque to the modern style.


Besides that, since 2000, she has been playing with Danish professional orchestras (Odense Symphony Orchestra, South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Randers Chamber Orchestra).


She works as a studio musician as well. She has recorded the demo “The second you sleep” with Saybia, Danish succesfull rockband, album “Walk in Heaven” with Meik Aas and others.


After her training at the music conservatory and the music academy Marta Kocon was looking for a fresh inspiration and found it at the legendary Japanese violin teacher Shinichi Suzuki, whose very exciting teaching philosophy and methods are known around the world. She studied the violin with Jan Mathiesen. Currently she is continuing the violin training with Tove Detraköy and Marianne Rygner, and the viola with Ilona Telmány at the Danish Suzuki Institute in Copenhagen.

 

Marta Kocon has a great experience as conductor of many choirs and orchestras in Denmark and Poland. Her repertoire represents many musical styles and time periods in the choir and orchestra music. In her long conducting career, she has been a leader of a several ensembles, notably Nyborg Motet Choir, Nyborg Chamber Orchestra, the Cantemus Choir of Vejle, the Fionia Choir in Odense, Hans Christian Andersen Choir in Odense, South Jutland Choir of Haderslev, the VOK choir and Orchestra in Grindsted, among others.


Marta Kocon works as a viola and a violin teacher at the Koege Music School, violin teacher at the Talent Academy and Music School in Vordingborg and violin/viola teacher at the Music School and MGK in Haderslev
